Ager's Story

A hungry family prays for a miracle

Ager with her child KnolWe recently met a young mother outside a medical clinic in South Sudan. Her name is Ager. She held her one-year-old son Knol as his legs dangled off her lap—thin and bony, making them look too long for his body. In fact, he hardly resembles a baby. Babies are supposed to be chubby…

There was such emptiness in Ager’s eyes. Heartache. Hunger. Loneliness. She’s divorced, she told us. Her husband left her with two young children. Five-year-old Deng stood close by her side. She says because this is her husband’s village, she feels no one cares about her.

Ager’s greatest worry is that her children will starve. She spends her days collecting and selling firewood so that she can buy some food for her children. It’s not nearly enough. Perspiration beads up on her face as she tells us that she also has gone three days without eating, except for some leaves she found.

“I feel bad that my children are suffering. I have no support,” said Ager. “I pray for a better life.”

About one in every three children in South Sudan is underweight. Many, like Knol, are hungry enough that their development is permanently stunted. Nutributter is a simple solution. It’s the miracle these moms are praying for. Please help us feed more children with this life-saving food.
