A holistic approach to caring

The tragedy of HIV/AIDS in Africa knocks vulnerable children deeper into poverty, where the disease flourishes. We’re here to pick them up.

1,000 crosses for World AIDS Day

World AIDS day 2008, World ConcernWorld Concern installed 1,000 crosses to remember those who die every day because of AIDS. The crosses represent fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers. Three out of four of those who will die today live in Africa.

Millions die preventable deaths in the developing world

  • AIDS remains the #1 killer in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • 33 million people have AIDS worldwide
  • 23 million people with AIDS live in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Intestinal parasites infect roughly 40% of the world's children
  • Parasites consume essential nutrients and cause anemia, malnutrition, skin disorders and stunted growth
  • More than half a million women die every year of complications during pregnancy or childbirth; most of these deaths can be avoided with proper medical care

How we provide it

Touching people in grief, teaching the facts

  • We connect people living with AIDS to clinics and Anti Retro Viral medicine
  • Children learn accurate information about HIV/AIDS through a variety awareness curriculum
  • People receive voluntary counseling and testing services, as well as peer support groups
  • World Concern HIV/AIDS prevention activities are gender balanced with a strong focus on empowering women
  • We train local volunteers to provide grief and counseling to orphans
  • We support caregivers of orphans with food, livestock, business skills and hygiene training
