Haiti Earthquake Update: Jan. 26, 2010 9:15 am

Updates from the field

Merry Fitzpatrick, our disaster relief director, watched some Haitian kids playing soccer with a Coke bottle. We are hoping to get the kids some balls to play with, soon—a small comfort to children who have lost so much.

The damage is appalling. Merry, Christon and the rest of our staff have been assessing neighborhoods, and checking on several churches who serve with us. While they were out recently, they saw a seven-floor vocational school smashed to 1 1/2 stories. Rebuilding with so much rubble will be a challenge.

Please continue to pray for our staff, as they have been through trauma. They’re doing their best to help others, despite their own losses. Our staff member who lost his wife and kids has returned to work.
