Khadidja's Story

How a sack garden helped one hungry family

Ager with her child KnolKhadidja whispers a silent prayer of thanks as she picks fresh vegetables from her garden before the hot sun rises in the morning. A mother of six and refugee of the Darfur war living in Chad, Khadidja has been growing her garden for several months in a recycled food aid sack.

She received the supplies, seeds and training—including how to reuse household water for her garden—from World Concern. With no land of her own, Khadidja was surprised at how easily her sack garden thrived in the hot, dry climate in Chad.

Now, her children have the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow healthy and develop properly.

You can provide vibrant, nutritious vegetables for a family like Khadidja’s by donating a sack garden for $25.
