Emergency aid to Haiti flood survivors

Food and hygiene supplies distribution underway

Haiti's Gosseline River floods gardens.World Concern staff members in Haiti continue to distribute emergency food and hygiene supplies to flood victims. So far, we have reached about 1,500 people since severe storms and Hurricanes tore across the nation.

World Concern is distributing soy-fortified rice and personal care items, such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and shampoo.

Haiti has been devastated by several storms or hurricanes in the last month. Tropical Storm Hanna killed at least 137 people and caused widespread flooding, according to the Associated Press.

The interior ministry says as many as one million people are severely affected, with more than 70,000 people living in shelters.

World Concern staff members have found that the storms killed some of the goats we distributed in our Hope for Kids program. The program allows children to learn how to raise their own herd. The income they receive helps pay for education beyond primary school.

The hurricane season ends in November. Until the season is over, there is always a possibility for the flooding to continue.

Staff members within Haiti have raised about $2,000 from local churches to help pay for the emergency response. World Concern now looks to donors in the U.S. and Canada to help contribute to these urgent needs.
