Loving God and loving people—it’s what Christ said to do (Matthew 22:37-39). We specialize in loving the most marginalized and destitute people we can find with Christ’s love—and offering you an opportunity do it too.
They’re sick, hungry and lack opportunity to change their own lives. Many times it’s because they’re vulnerable—orphans and widows. Other times it’s because of their environments: Treatment for sickness requires money they don’t have, crops fail, disasters destroy and needs as basic as water are barely met.
Our job is to present an opportunity—for them, yes, but also for you. We see the evidence of God’s love in the transformed lives of people we serve. It’s you and us working together—giving up comforts—by supporting them from home, or by living with them in the destitute places.
Together, we can relieve their suffering, helping them realize God loves them.
But this work goes beyond a momentary relief from suffering. The change in their hearts and lives can be long-term. Life-transforming. It’s not just giving out bags of rice—it’s figuring out the root causes of their hunger or poverty and helping them overcome those causes. As God transforms lives, we’re honored to work beside Him.
Together, you, our staff, our volunteers will help struggling moms start small businesses that feed their kids. We’ll teach better agricultural methods. We’ll care for AIDS orphans and their caregivers—getting the kids in school so they can work for better futures.
We’ll find solutions to lack of water in drought-prone places—such as deep, secure wells and water pans creating year-round ponds for livestock. We’ll even start schools and remove barriers to education so kids can begin to dream of futures apart from poverty.
And through it all, we’ll get to know the people we serve, and know them well. They will work right beside us, learning hands-on. We’ll share the stories with you; you’re part of this work. And together—you, our staff, volunteers and the people we serve—will shine an example of Christ’s love through transformed lives.
It’s a big vision, and with God, it’s possible—it’s already happening! Will you join us? The poor are closer to home, now, than you may have ever imagined.
