Near Seattle, Ginger Shaw was loading Costco groceries into her SUV.
She loved God and people, and led a
Bible study. Still, staring at the giant food
boxes, words from Ezekiel came to mind:
“… She and her daughters were arrogant,
overfed and unconcerned; they did not
help the poor and needy,” (16:49b).
“I never considered myself unconcerned about the poor,” says Ginger, “But I realized it is arrogant to just think about your own needs.” She began seeking out ways to help others.
Ginger visited Cambodia through
her church and World Concern’s
Women of Purpose. At a vocational
sewing school we support, she met Binh.
Thai authorities had rescued
Binh and dropped her off at the Thai-Cambodia border, where traffickers
waited. Thankfully, our partner
organization’s staff found her before she
could be trafficked again. Now 16, Binh
is safe. We helped her begin a small tailoring business.
Through World Concern’s Women of Purpose, Ginger now works passionately
to give support and raise funds to keep
children safe from traffickers.
“The issues World Concern is dealing with are overwhelming,” Ginger admits.
But she finds ways daily to pray for struggling people we serve and to share
her passion for preventing trafficking.
She adds, “I think if people really knew
the reality in places like Cambodia, they
wouldn’t stand for it.”
